Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

 

This worship devotion is more than just a grand old hymn; it is a great way to face every new day!  Recognizing that the compassion of the Lord for us is what keeps us alive, and that they never fail but get renewed every morning is a great way to face whatever you have to face in this day.

 

Unlike our faithfulness, God’s faithfulness is great, constantly renewed and able to be relied upon no matter what each day brings.  Have you got a tough day ahead?  The Lord is faithful!  Are you facing financial problems?  The Lord is faithful!  Are you grappling with sin or temptation? The Lord is faithful!

 

Whatever it is that you face today, you need to recognize that He is faithful!  He is not trying to peddle yesterday’s love and compassion, He has renewed it for you, freshly baked and ready for consumption right now.  So no matter what you went through yesterday, you need to feel assured that today is a new day, and His compassions are also new, just for you and everything you are looking at in your life!  In fact, now is a great time to not only read the worship devotion, but sing the song a few times and get it into your spirit!

 

Most of us have sung this song for years, and we love it.  But maybe it is time for us to not only sing it, but to also live it, and face life like we mean it!  Get your head around it today, that God’s compassions never, never fail, but are constantly renewed for you, morning by morning.  You are blessed, you are chosen and God is with you full of compassion, love and faithfulness, even if we fail!  This is the only way to live a life of victory, resting in the arms that will never let you down, never fail and never run out of love, compassion and faithfulness for you!

God Hurts Too!

God hurts tooGenesis 6:6

The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

It may come as a spectacular shock, but God hurts too!

That’s right, God the Creator of the universe, God the Saviour of mankind and God the indwelling Holy Spirit all grieved at some time, hurt by what mankind has done.

[simpleazon-image align=”left” asin=”0310245729″ locale=”us” height=”160″ src=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51fJxM9XebL._SL160_.jpg” width=”100″]When you think about it, God is omniscient, which means that he has complete knowledge and understanding of everything including human sin and the terrible effects that it brings upon His creation.

God the Father felt pain when He looked upon the people He had created and saw how sin had corrupted them (Genesis 6:6). Jesus looked across his favorite city and His chosen people and His heart just broke both for the sin and hardheartedness He saw, but also for what was to come for these people (Luke 13:34). And the Holy Spirit is grieved by a sinful ways (Ephesians 4:30).

God is not a Creator who sits back and lets a sinful world take its course. He is not some cosmic computer completely devoid of emotion and feelings. He feels are sin, He feels our pain and, just as we do, God hurts!

Sometimes when you lead worship you will feel and understand the hurt Our Father feels when He looks at us.  The times we have let Him down, His great yearning for our love and devotion, as we worship we can sometimes catch a glimpse of these.  He is not an aloof God, sitting back watching a world out of control.  He is a loving, caring and intimate God, reaching out to us despite how we have hurt Him.

So if you feel pain today, bring your pain to God because he understands exactly what you’re going through and how you feel. Be open with Him, share your heart with Him and even your frustrations, because if we hurt, then remember God hurts too!  Cast your cares on Him because He cares for you! (1 Peter 5:7)

If you are searching for worship leading tips then chances are that you are dealing with an unresponsive audience. If you have been worship leading for a while then you are sure to have encountered such a congregation and, because every group is different, it is often hard to figure out how to deal with the situation. What works with one group may not work with another or even in your specific situation, however there are some general worship leading tips which can make a difference when facing an unresponsive audience.

The Basic Worship Leading Tips

Firstly, the basic worship leading tips apply in almost every situation. You need to look at the type of material you are using in the service, and in particular the type of songs. Are there too many new ones? Are there too many old ones? Are you offering the type of songs you like rather than what your audience likes?

Next, have a look at your presentation and musicians or singers and ask yourself if this is conducive to worship in your church. Is your band too loud and turning some members off? Are they too soft so that people do not have to sing enthusiastically to hear themselves? Are they in their own little world and completely misreading or even worse ignoring responses from the audience? Are they hitting poor notes and sounding awful. One of the easiest to apply worship leading tips is to make sure that the sound is pleasant, well played and well sung in addition to being well presented. If you do this, people will enjoy it and be more inclined to relax and truly worship, and this is one of the most important worship leading tips to learn.

If you are leading praise and worship in your church, one of the best worship leading tips I can offer is to minimize your talking in between songs. Many feel that they have to preach a mini sermon, especially if there is something going wrong! Real worship relies more on the Spirit’s ability rather than our talking ability, so if you want to see God do something awesome try talking less and letting the Spirit work in hearts more.

That being said, saying the right thing at the right moment can also be effective. Playing an inspiring musical interlude is another way in which you can affect the mood of the meeting and open people’s hearts. So one of the most effective worship leading tips is to be open to innovative and inspired changes in music and mood, rather than being locked into a set format. I mean, if you decide to do the chorus twice at the end of the song, and the Holy Spirit is about to take off on the 3rd time through, if you follow the plan you will miss out on the blessings! Be open, be innovative and be flexible enough to change depending on the direction of the worship time, and be brave enough to follow these worship leading tips.

The Ultimate Worship Leading Tips

Worship Leading TipsIf you face an unresponsive audience, the best worship leading tips I have shared above may fall flat if you are unprepared as a worship leader. So the ultimate worship leading tips are to be prepared in heart (walking close to the Lord and in close fellowship with Him) and to be prepared in ability (by studying and learning about worship leading). Having a solid relationship with the Lord and a solid background in the theories and principles of leading will have you fully prepared for a less than responsive audience.

In the end, your calling as a worship leader is about serving, not about the glory and success (Mark 10:45). If you approach every opportunity to lead as an opportunity to serve, then you can do all you can and leave the rest of it to the Holy Spirit. Whether they respond, raise their hands or sit there in stormy silence, one of the best worship leading tips is to keep serving, which means you keep going and do your best regardless of the results.

If you are looking for worship leading training then chances are you are already a worship leader yourself.  You may have started leading the congregation having watched others before you, only to find that when you start things are not as easy as you may have thought they would be.

 

When you start out the choice you face is that you can wait and learn ‘on the job’, making your own mistakes and learning from them over a number of years, or you can seek the advice of an experienced leader and gain some valuable worship leading training from them.  This approach shortens the time, lessens the embarrassment and improves your ability beyond anything you can achieve yourself.

Why Is Worship Leading Training Necessary?

 

Finding the right worship leading training is a great way to fast track your ability and talent.  You may have some talent already, but if you do the right kind of worship leading training can make sure that you develop in a way that maximizes God’s ability to use you and your gift.

 

Yet with so many people all claiming that they can help you improve your worship leader abilities, what is the best type of worship leading training you can obtain?  Is it going to a conference, doing a workshop, listening to a worship leader podcast or buying a book?  Sure, you recognize that training can fast track your leading abilities, but which is the best way to go?

 

What is Effective Worship Leading Training?

 

Worship Leading TrainingDifferent people learn in different ways, and this will change your view of the most effective training.  Some like conferences, some like videos and some prefer to read.  However, I believe that the real power of the most effective worship leading training is the ability to learn the concentrated essence of the task.  No fluff, no hype, just a constant and steady stream of easy to apply tips and techniques which can dramatically affect your ability and talent.  The second element is the ability to go back quickly and easily and retrain or relearn points.

 

So, conferences and workshops are fun and you will pick up a few things, but they lack the ability of being able to review the information time and again until it becomes part of who you are.  The most effective worship leading training is material that you can read, reread and apply so that you can constantly improve your abilities.  No one is able to take in everything all of the time, so having this ability to review and selectively apply the information is important.

 

Get Worship Leading Training Fast!

 

If you find the right material that allows you to review and selectively apply the valuable information you learn, then you will find that you can improve your worship leader abilities very, very quickly.  If you are new to the field, don’t be content to make continuous mistakes when you can obtain material which can save you a lot of time, embarrassing moments and frustration!

 

If you want to become a powerful and effective worship leader in double quick time the I would suggest that you don’t simply attend a few workshops or conferences.  Take the plunge, step out by faith and get a hold of the right material, because you can rapidly increase your abilities if you obtain the right worship leading training today!

As a worship leader it is important that you consider the question of whether an unbeliever can be part of your worship program.  I am often asked this question when two situations occur in a church: there are few team members available for the worship program, and the person who is not a Christian is a really talented individual.  If you have a large church with many talented musicians then the question may not affect you as much, but if your team is small and a very talented musician or singer is in the wings, can you willingly accept them into your worship program with a clear conscience?

What is the Worship Program Really About?

When considering your team, you need to stop for a moment and ask yourself what the worship program is all about.  Is it about having a great sound, or being professional or rocking the congregation’s socks off?  Or is it about leading your church family into a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the Lord?

I would suggest to you that the worship program must be about leading people to God in worship.  Sure, we want to be professional and to play and sing to a high and beautiful standard, but I would suggest that these are secondary considerations for your worship program.  A worship program is a spiritual event, not a concert, so the idea that a non-believer can join your team is surely out of phase with the aims of your worship program team.

Who Qualifies Someone to Take Part in the Worship Program?

worship programIn teams that I have lead, one of the core requirements of team members is that they know Jesus and have a relationship with Him.  Non-believers can undoubtedly play well, sing well, and probably perform well, but they have no concept of the very central idea of the worship program: closer communion with the Lord.  Yes, we want it played and sung brilliantly, but we do not want to compromise the spirit of our worship program just to sound a bit better.

One of the first major worship program teams I assembled featured a very good drummer who was not a Christian, but who proved to be a demanding and rather aggressive team member.  We had a backup drummer who was relegated to percussion, and who was just happy to be a part of the worship program at all.  When the unbelieving drummer didn’t bother to turn up to practice twice over because he said he was good enough, I appointed the Christian guy.  He could not play as well, but he had a great spirit and understood what humility and serving in the  worship programwas all about.

Can the Worship Program Be a Tool To Reach Team Members?

In most modern churches, the pressure is on worship leaders to sound great and act professional (and this means accepting talented people whose lives are not right with the Lord) and I believe that worship leaders need to make a stand in their worship program.  I have heard of non-believers becoming Christians because of their involvement in the worship band, but I do not feel that this is the way we should be operating.  Why not lead them to the Lord first (when there is no ego opportunity at stake), then introduce them to the whole concept of worship, both personal and corporate.

Using worship team involvement to win a talented unbeliever to Christ is a bit like marrying an unbeliever to witness to them and lead them to Christ.  It is around the wrong way!  It is difficult to capture a true spirit of worship when the team for your worship program is unequally yoked!

So, worship leaders and pastors, let us make a stand for what is right and make sure our worship team is focused on the real task of leading people to Christ.  We must worship in Spirit and in truth, not just have professional music and presentation. Don’t allow your worship program to be held to ransom by talented non-believers.

If you are involved in leading praise and worship in a non-westernized society, you may be facing the question of whether you should modify your worship style to fit your culture. Most of the styles of leading praise and worship are heavily influenced by the church in the developed nations, and if you are in an emerging nation it is important that you do not reproduce what you hear on worship CDs, but start leading praise and worship within your own culture.

Leading Praise and Worship is About the Lord

Contrary to what you might believe, leading praise and worship in a developing nation is not about westernizing your church! Admittedly, there are many wonderful praise and worship songs that have been beautifully produced by the Western Church, and it is tempting to play and sing the songs exactly the same way that you hear them in recordings, but I do not believe that this is what should be done.

Leading praise and worship in church is about pointing people towards the Lord, and I believe that the Lord wants to meet people where they are at and in their own culture to impact their lives. If we continue to use music as an excuse to introduce Western culture, and we are conveying to the people that the Lord commanded us to worship in an exclusive way, the way of the developed nations. If you are leading praise and worship, this is your opportunity to show people that God is relevant to them in their culture.

Leading Praise and WorshipLeading Praise and Worship is About the People

As I write this article I’m sitting in a room in northeast India, where these beautiful Indian people are singing songs that I recognize but in their own language. Some songs are in English, but many of them are in a language that the people understand best, and this is part of leading praise and worship in your own culture. This style of music and worship, however, would not be out of place in any American, English or Australian church, and this way I feel that those leading praise and worship are misled.

One of the great difficulties facing the early and medieval church was that much of the original writings were in Latin, a language which the common people did not speak! However wonderful a worship song is, if the people have no understanding of the meaning behind it is practically useless! If you are leading praise and worship and you want to make it relevant to your culture, one of the first steps is to translate the words into a language that your people will understand.

Leading Praise and Worship is About Expressing Your Culture

However, leading praise and worship in your own culture needs to go beyond simply the words. Most cultures have a specific way of expressing themselves musically, and I believe it brings great joy to the heart of God when he hears people worshiping using their own cultural instruments in their own cultural style. For some strange reason, those leading praise and worship seem to always want to make the sound more Western, rather than embracing the music and style of their own culture. Perhaps there is a mystique to Western culture, but when you are leading praise and worship you have an incredible opportunity to blend the Western sound with your own cultural instruments and style!

So if you are leading praise and worship in your church, and if you live in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, India and South America, please try and express your own culture in your worship. This will bring much joy to the heart of God, and also to your people and your country. Western music is attractive, especially to young people, I would suggest the two blamed on the styles of your own culture with Western music to create a unique expression of worship the Lord.

If you are leading praise and worship, you are in the perfect position to blend words and music styles to create a form of worship unique to your culture.

If you have been leading is worship for any length of time you will realize that there are mornings but don’t go well!  Even those experienced in leading praise and worship will have good days and bad days, but the big questions after you have a day when things do not go right are how do you face it, how do you overcome it and how do you not to repeat it?

Leading Praise and Worship is Not That Easy!

The first thing to point out is that leading praise and worship is not easy!  It is a ministry that requires you to discipline yourself, train yourself, and seek God with all your heart, allowing Him to lead, guided and shape the way you lead worship.  When you have a day leading praise and worship where things do not go to plan, it is natural to blame yourself, your preparation or your team and feel like a failure!  Your pride may have gotten the way, your leadership skills may be questioned, and you will feel disheartened and disillusioned.

However, the overwhelming reason for worship not going well has nothing to do with your pride, the state of your heart or God trying to embarrass you!  The main reason people do poorly at leading praise and worship is that they are untrained and unprepared for the job they have taken on.

Leading Praise and Worship

It Can Happen, Even If You Are Experienced in Leading Praise and Worship!

The fact is that “a bad day at the office” can happen to anyone, even the most experienced at leading praise and worship!  You might have sound problems, technical problems, difficulties with members of your band, or simple things like the breaking of a guitar string.  You may have had a fight with someone just before you went on, there may be trouble brewing within the church congregation or there may be no other explicable reason for any of this to take place.  The question is not necessarily what causes the morning to come out, but rather what is your response?

Leading Praise and  Worship When Everything Goes Wrong!

Speaking as someone who has been leading praise and worship for over 20 years, in everything from home groups and churches to stadiums, the most important thing to remember is that leading praise and worship is not about you!  I know if things do not go according to plan that I feel embarrassed, disillusioned and let down, and I feel like getting angry at myself, my band or even God.  It is in these moments that I pause and remember that leading praise and worship is not about promoting myself, making me look good or making me feel good because the job was well-done it is about leading the people in my church to be the worship of the Lord!  As John 3:30 says, “He must become greater and I must become less!”  If I examine myself and no problem with my heart is revealed, the reason for the morning going poorly could be anyone of 1000 reasons completely unrelated to my walk with God!  Leading praise and worship is a spiritual journey, and as in life not every day is one of triumph!

If you have had experience leading praise and worship that you feel has not gone well, and you know what your heart you want to serve the Lord in this area with humility, then the best advice I can give you is to get some training.  If you learn the basics on leading praise and worship, and if you understand how to structure a great worship time and flow with the Spirit wherever He leads, then you will find that the number of times worship fails will decrease.  If you get the basics right then press in to the Lord, you will find but you’ll have more incredible case of worship and less what have leading disasters!

Leading Praise and Worship Requires Training

If you get practical and powerful worship leader training, and keep your heart humble then you will find that almost every time you are leading praise and worship will be a powerful and wonderful experience!
